Has anybody ever used Basalt to make parts? It’s currently being made in a twill and I bought a yard of satin weave just to see what it would do. It’s supposed to have a “gold shimmer” to it.

thats some proper heat resistant fabric, make sure you get some pics up of it.
any ideas what your going to use it on? Manifold ?
No, might make a pocketbike fender out of it or a jet ski hood or something. I just thought it might look cool with that gold shimmer and with the 2x2 twill carbon getting scarce, I thought this might be somewhat of an alternative fabric. I still haven’t received it yet- might look like crap!!! I’ll post pics when I make something with it though.
i’ve seen it in person, the fabric, it looks like it has some cosmetic coolness, but not the ricer crowd wholey. it’ll be a cult following fabric with less than .0000001158263% of the market. it sucks, cause i really like it.
where did you pick it up from?
There’s a guy selling it on Ebay. He’s not selling the twill pattern though. I made a part with it and it turned out looking AWFUL. The goldness of the fabric turned dark brown. Not very attractive at all!!!
Ah its not all bad you could colour code it for brown cars.
actually quite gutted it turned brown, sounded like it had good potential until that bit
I got some black texilium and it looks damn near close to carbonfiber
FNG question…
So the material can handle up to 1450 degrees F, but how high can the resin’s used to set the product go up to? And what would you use?
Did I ask a wrong question?
no you didnt. but its not a question that can really be answered acuratly
3 main types of resin - per, ver and epoxy
as far as im aware ver has the best heat resitsance (Oo my spelling sucks today) but you would need to speak to your supplier to find out the best one he supplies as they will probably vary greatly.
Thats about the best answer i can give anyway hope its a help
