Bagging Help

Hi guys. So i am learning bagging. here is the deal

we make helmets
one helmet in particular has a two part mold
we spray with gel-coat
do a wet lay up
then apply release film to it
then breather over the release film
don’t use any peel ply
apply the tacky tape to the narrow flang
put strechy bagging film over the mold cavity
I cannot get a good seal
It sounds like air is leaking in the seam between the two halves of mold.

What to do?

Thanks
Tom

Try molding clay (small amount) between the 2 halves and then bolt together?

Or, use an envelope type bagging over the whole mold.

PS: Has anyone ever try using a rolling heat sealer? I just got the school to buy us one for shrink packaging and was going to play around with it for vacuum bagging too this summer, if i get the time to do it…

that sounds like the obvious idea. thanks
the mold is not really set up well for a envelope.
what i really need to do is to add a flange the molds that is side enough to support the tackey tape or a seal.

Been using envelops on another part and it working ok. we have to turn the bag insidse out to get it over the mold since is a pretty complex part geometry, then you have to worry about getting resin on the open end of the bag. still have not acheive the perfect seal yet.

Any photos available of your molds?
