got sick of failing at vac bagging so tried a very basic wet layup today and low and behold, its 99% perfect and the other 1% is easily fixed
the door handle was overlayed by myself also
its not been fully trimmed yet BTW.
looking good!!
guess youve got your enthusiasm back
epoxy ?
epoxy yes, made a decent fibreglass part today and another great overlay, until i just sat on it
 but atleast you can learn how to repair overlays now aswell
that easy
just keep sanding/adding resin or reverse until it looks good
how are you getting on??
what type of Epoxy, and fabric are u using? no pin holes etc?? whats the steps ur taking for the layup
its west epoxy,i layer of 5oz plain carbon and 2 layers of glass cloth.all i did was prep the mold with wax and pva, brush eopxy into that, brush epoxy onto the front of the cloth, turn it over and lay into the mold wets ide down, brush more epoxy on to the rear.i then used the old plug and placed that inside the part(the mold is 1mm bigger all round as i used sheet wax when constructing it) with a layer of bagging film between(should have used peelply really),clamped it all down, let it dry and then added the two layers of glass when the carbon was dry.there is a small patch that is a little dry but i can easily brush a little epoxy over it and sand flat.
it amazing how one good piece can raise your spirits so much!
yeah i know what you mean about it putting you off and giving up all together! looking good thou…could you just help me out on the sheet wax?
I want to create like a 1mm thickness so i can create a carbon “shell”…so i can stick it over my dash (and take it off later if i need too)…thanks
its just sheets of wax 1 foot by 2 foot in various thicnesses,i got a pack of 10 1mm sheets, they are kind of like self adhesive processed cheese slices! warm them up with a hairdryer and they form around curves pretty well and are very sticky.also buy the surface sealer for it.most grp suppliers will stock sheet wax.
