Well we all know that custom fiberglass looks better than carpeted wood ones. But are you sacrificing power for looks? I was throwing around the idea of making a custom Fiberglass Box for my subs and they were telling me about how it is weak and it expands causing the subs to hit less, is this true?
it depends on how much reinforcement is added, If you use one layer of chopped mat then it will be week, The more you add the stronger it gets. in equal thickness it will be much stronger than wood.
That is correct and if you more layers of FG cloth (they have to be cut & layed at different angles off the roll just like plywood is) or Carbon Fiber, it gets even stronger!
Do you see any WOOD planes anymore? No, just composites!

Thanks!!! Yea i felt like an idiot when I Interjected my idea about how much cooler a Fiberglass box would be, only to be shut down by peoplle tell me it would be weaker. Thanks for the info guys.
You could just build a wooden box to the correct volume and laminate a curved \ smooth flowing face to it to get the shape you want rather than trying to build a sealed enclosure with all composite.

who ever would tell you that is a idiot. Fiberglass is the way to go. It looks way better than just a square box.
