Applying labels during infusion

I make a carbon fibre part that gets an adhesive decal attached as a last step in the finishing process. The decal doesn’t last long. It gets scratched or peeled off by the end user. I was wondering if anyone is applying a label to a part during the infusion process instead of after.

My idea is to print on vellum paper or clear adhesive labels using an inkjet printer and then applying it to the part before I bag it. I do this now with very small serial number stickers.

Has anyone tried this? I’m wondering if the resin will cause the ink to run. I’m going to test this but thought I’d ask in case someone has done this before.

I am using MGS 285/287 resin and hardener.

I’ve successfully done this for years by simply spraying in clear Gel-coat and then laying in the label face down into the mold carefully right at B stage of the GC. The mold has a scratched/etched outline on its colored GC to aid in location sighting.

Infuse as normal.

I have had inkjet inkt to run, but laser printed usually is OK.

I feel it is hard to infuse on both top and bottom of the label, so Worldwealth might have the best solution.

I agree with Ww. Adding the decal in the gel coat works wel :).

You can take normal paper and a laser printer. Place the paper as last layer and over the paper a thin glas fabric so that you dont damage your print when peeling the peel ply off.
You can also buy special printeble non woven, but normal paper also works.
