HEy whats up,. i just tried a grill and i messed up BIGTIME, any one pull off a nice one? anyone Have some tips to share?

Thanx
JOEoner
How did you do it Joe?
well First i sanded down the grill, got the chrome off.
Then I mixed up the epoxy and wet both sides of it.Put it on top of the grill and then kinda shaped it to fit the form.
The damm thing kept moving and wouldnt stay int he same place for a minute. so while this thing is wet. i got some scissors and cut out the middle to shape it Better? still wouldnt stay still, so i got some saran wrap and wrapped four sides down to hold the shape . NO DICE
So basically what happened is:
it cured, but all wrong, the sides are all peeling up,. and where u put the saran wrap it stuck to the grill but the carbon fiber looks all wrinkled under it. Tried sanding it, but nothing. so i got mad and ripped the carbon fiber off the grill. looked like crap anyway.
So now im starting over,…
got any tips?
JOEoner
hehe i just tried the glove box trim last night… it came out ok
i used too much resin… but holy shit that stuff SMELLS i cant work with it a lot
The fabric naturally likes to stay flat. So I can imagine how you ran into that problem. My best suggestion is to wet the grilles with one coat of resin first and wait about 30 mins or until it gets really tacky. Then lay the fabric over it and that should help keep it down more. The best solution would be vacuum bagging it.
i would like to make a vacume bagger
bwahahah but i cant quite figure out how to get a good airtight seal…
im getting my oven tonight
WOO!
I have a few DIY links for making your own vacuum pump from a fridge compressor. Too complicated for me to try but maybe not for you guys. I’ll find the links and post it here later.
im willing to give everything a shot hehe

you guys must read minds… what about a standard vacuum cleaner and a large, contractor grade garbage bag… when we got our fancy-schmancy Rainbow over 12+ years ago, the selling point was that one could vacuum thier pillows… and it worked, don’t know if it actually cleaned properly… but the shrinking pillow trick never got old, wait yeah it did… anyway what about that idea…
or how about this…

$15.99
or this…

$9.99
combined with this…
8" Bag Sealer (8", 12", and 15" Available - $19, $29, and $39 respectively)

$19.99

(I know its cheap stuff, but those are great prices)[/img]
You’ll need an air compressor for the first one because it’s a vacuum generator using compressed air. I have heard of some people using the second one but you don’t need to seal it with the third one. Either get a shutoff valve or leave the vacuum running in case you have leaks.
BTW, you are going to need alot more than just the vacuum.
