Any ideas? Plug and flanges!!

Im trying to make a mould of my A pillars but having a few probs

Ive stuck my flanges (corkflakes box cardboard) using a glue gun! No real probs there ive then applied a layer of wax. But… when i try to polish the wax it pops the glue off my pillar any suggestions?

  • Ive brought some expanding foam to try filling in between the flanges but its going to take atleast 12 hours to set and if that doesnt work i will have to pull it out and all the flanges off etc. DONT really want to do that (i may have to but dont want to think about that at the mo).

I will try and get a pic up in a bit but to give you an idea the flanges follow on like an extension of the pillar

can you not try and gaffer tape them on at some points?

Thanks for the suggestion gt!!! I had thought about that after seeing your flanges but i dont think it will work. I will have another look at your pics though just incase.
. . . . . . … . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . \ . / Flange
The shape sort of looks like a _/ but with the flanges continuing along the upwards angle (extension).

Cant post pics as i cant find the camera. Ignore the dots needed them to get the / over enough

Keep the ideas coming…please

i use a slightly denser paper than construction paper to make the form of the part for the flange. then when the shape is good, i cut it out in a flexible but stiff paper. I don’t know paper thickness convention so just follow me here. I then tape the entire flange with some packing tape.

i put some modeling clay along the flange line, stick the flange to the modeling clay, fill in any spaces along the flash line with modeling clay or partall wax with a popsicle stick or coffee stirrer with a sharpened edge, and clean up the mess of the clay and the wax with either thinner or a wax remover depending on the mold release system i’m using.

Wow id forgot id written this post lol

Thanks for the advice. problem was sorted but that was sort of what i did to solve it
