another q on bagging.

so before getting started (I have to wait till summer anyways) I have yet another question. i’m gonna try to explain this as best I can without a pic. So the center of the object has a rectangular area that is inset around 3 inches, with dimensions of say 10" by 5" and the whole object is around 15" by 10" and 8" tall. when you attempt to infuse or bag the object, will the weave distort on the areas at the bottom of the inset part or in the corners? I figured it might since certain areas will be getting pulled as the vacuum is applied.

Hope I explained myself well enough, otherwise I will draw up a picture.

You need to arrange the fabrics so that they conform properly to the mold in the first place. Most likely you’ll have to use several pieces of fabric.
Don’t expect the bag to suck everything into place.

also, how thick/how many layers can be infused at a single time?

Test panels will tell you with the materials and the resin that you are working with will do at a time. get longer working resin matrix I suggest.

you could lay a few larger pieces over the whole part and then a few smaller pieces (cut more or less to cover the inset just to provide extra coverage for the instet) between the larger layers. This should help in preventing and see through areas where the carbon might pull away a bit.

Laminate thickness is nearly unlimited. Some of our parts use 76oz/sq yd with a core. That’s 12 layers of 6.3oz unidirectional and 1/2" core all in one shot!
