So we have been using a 1/3hp rocking piston gast (72R I believe) with a tank and switch. I am planning to scrap and rebuild this setup since I want more tank, a more reliable switch (sometimes it wont turn off), and more pressure. I thought the Gast was going to do better, but it struggles to get over 25 (probably tops out at 26…otherwise I love it). Our old oil-spitting pump used to hit 29 consistently. So what is a good oil-less pump that wont have trouble hitting 29"?
Hardly any. However, if an oil lubricated pump spits oil, it is either an ultra-cheap airco pump, or a decent pump which is in need of some maintenance. Spitting oil or blasting oil fumes in the air means the exhaust filters are clogged, and should be replaced. A relative simple procedure. Just make sure when taking the old ones out, the rubber ring on the end comes out as well, or use a piece of bent wire to pull it out. Then install new filter seals and filters. 10 minute job…
As for a switch either rig up a digital switch, such as the SMC switch. (power supply 12 or 24v needed, plus a double relais) or use the rock solid RT121 from Danfoss. (only a relais needed as extra).
Tanks can be made out of anything.
I have a Gast SAA-V109-NQ…dual piston dry pump. only a few CFM, but hits 29 every time…runs forever.
