Another from Canada

Hi all, this is my first post and I have only recently thought it was possible to do your own carbon fiber parts! I don’t know why I thought you had to buy the parts.

Well, I plan on doing overlays of interior car parts of my Corvette. I have watched many youtube videos on how to do it and it looks super easy! Then I come on here and there’s so many places that can cause you troubles, from pin holes to bad UV protection. Of course, the experts make it look easy on youtube, like anything else, it’s always harder to do a good job for the novice that doesn’t know what he’s doing, even worse if we understimate how much work goes into doing a good quality part.

I have a bunch of questions, but not sure where to post them yet. I’ll list the subjects, if you guys care to direct me to where those questions should be asked.

  1. You mix the resins, use brushes and squeeges… how do you clean them? What do you do with the left over resins, used brushes and such?
  2. How shape resistant is a single layer of carbon fiber? with other follow up questions
  3. Canadian suppliers? I’m reading that it might be tough to get resin mixes through the border.
  4. How do you pigment the resin? If I want a base layer of black, or red…
  5. Fumes?

I’ll have more questions once I get started!

Anyway, Hi everyone and I’m looking forward to start playing and sharing!
