annealing process on composite

hai guys,im new here…im doing researches on PEEK materials and having some problems with the annealing process…is there any SOP for composite/polymer annealing? and my material is 100mm x 50mm x 17mm, should i cut it to small pieces first before annealing or after, because i need a sample for XRD…

What problems are you having?

1st problem-is there any SOP for composite/polymer annealing?

2nd problem-for XRD sample, should i cut it to small pieces first before annealing or after?

You’ll want to contact the manufacturer of you resin for the annealing specifications.

ok…how bout the 2nd problem…if i cut my materials for XRD sample after annealed, will the sawing process, effect my sample? or i should cut the sample 1st then proceed to annealing?

I found this procedure on line http://www.plasticsintl.com/documents/PEEK%20Annealing.pdf

for the XRD sample, should i cut it out from my material block first before or after annealing?

Depends on how you cut your sample. I don’t use XRD, but if you use a thin diamond blade at slow speed, it might be ok…for some reason, I think that you might wnat to look into annealing AFTER, just because any stresses caused by cutting will be evened out.
As per others, call the manuf. about what conditions are for process/anneal.

Personally I would anneal first to ensure that the test sample is processed under the same conditions as the actual part.

this is my tinking…T_T
cut sample before annealing- problem:anneal condition might not same as actual part.
cut sample after annealing- problem: stress might built in again.
i been find many journals…but none stated which is correct way…

I worked for one of the America’s Cup teams in the last America’s cup. We had a very intense testing program involving ultra sonic NDT. We also regularly sent samples for XRD that were cut from the final part. While I did not ask specifically I would assume that stresses introduced from cutting samples are well understood by those doing the testing.

ok…got it…thnks for all the helps…i will just cut it using low speed diamond cutter after i annealed…
