angle grinder?

is it ok to use an angle grinder with diamond cut wheel for triming down fibreglass parts?

Try a Fein oscallating tools!

this one?

my angle grinder only cost £10

Yea, that is one of them and a couple on down is a great one for making like square holes into composites too…

yeah the diamond blades are good… just watchout if the grinder kicks back and comes near you… those blades dont mess around…
then just get a sanding blade for your grinder just to finish it… depends how perfect you want it to be…

i got to scared  and dremmeled it,wasnt as tough as i thought but i think the grinder will come out again for cuting molds 8)

With fiberglass a std. sanding disc works great.

One adult had brought into class some small diameter round saw blades and then on Tuesday night another one broke the fiber one on the die grinder cut off and place one of the saw blades on it as I keep the fiber ones inthe office. But the saw bladew was doing a great job of it…!

But with Carbon fiber, you need a vacuum assit as the dust is not good for you.

What do others use for carbon fiber as I’ll be needing to upgrade some tools in the classroom for next year.

is the dust really that bad for you?

If you read the MSDS for carbon fiber it staes that there is no disease which is cause by exposure to carbon fiber. Now do it mean it is good for you? Probably not.

I am in the prosthetic field and know that people really react differntly to the dust. Some poeple break out in a rash and other like me can be cover and not really itch at all. Guess it just depends.

I would guess that carbon would be no worse than fiberglass. It is probably the resin that will kill you.

I would imagine graphite would not be good to inhale over time.

anything other then air in your lungs is not good

for rough cutting of mould you could also try a recipricating saw?
then just smooth the edges with the sander grinder?

i dunno though… i prefer the grinder straight out, quicker, easier…

I use a combination of Band saw, 90 angle grinder, pencil grinder, barrel sanders and air reciprocating saw.

air saw is the ticket for me no more grind dust than necessary!!! unfortunaly i still find parts that require the grinder

yeah and air saw is my best friend too

i use an air saw to trim the excessively excess, then grind down the extra 1/8" with 90grinder and a 36g 3" disc. also, when laminating, “I” make sure i mark the edge of the plug on every edge with the surface coat, that way when i’m grinding down, i see the white surfact coat and know that the edge is soon to follow. I also use a pencil grinder and of course elbow, block and sandpaper when pulling a mold
