Am I not spraying enough!?

When spraying gelcoat, and poping the part out at the end… i feel like there isnt enough gelcoat on the mold.

When spraying with a 2.0 HVLP gun, i spray it all with 1 pass, and go over certain spots lightly…

should i be going over it maybe 2.5 times?

can you explain how it feels like there is not enough?

hmm… well the gelcoat -> carbon is just cutting it to close. if i were to sand the gelcoat, i feel like it will def. hit the carbon to quick.

also, since my last part last night got messed up ! =( the gelcoat looked like it didnt get close enough… i dont know how to explain it

ok I understand. I usually never use a gauge I always have been going by eye. I have sanded into the carbon plenty of times in my past and I just use a clear if I do that. Try spraying thicker. You know if you sprayed too thick because it starts turning a blue color

yeah my gelcoat starts taking on a whitish haze in the mold when its just about thick enough. I use black tooling gelcoat so your mileage may vary.

I think duall twill was the one that told me originally to keep spraying till I “KNEW” it was too heavy and it probably wasnt heavy enough still.

If you’re using a tiny 2.0 HVLP gun, it will take a few passes. Use a cup gun, I can’t stress this enough. One pass, plenty of thickness.
