AE86 Front Canards

I want to preface with I am still learning A LOT. But I’d like to give ya’ll a good picture trail. I used foam from avtcomposites and used Aeropoxy 2032 for the first time. Also my first time using a vacuum bag.

Josh mails be his template.

Here is my mirror I didn’t like in my room. You can see in background my crude box, supports 160f.

Pulled 2x 10min vac’s. Worked out pretty well, but on one occasion I used too much epoxy and it started kicking before I got through all the layup and I had to mix up some new stuff. Very high stress, when your using the last of your CF.

Please note that I can fit all the rest of the plates I needed. Yet I messed up and didn’t fit them all due to thinking I could remember the order. Doh!

Lot of wasted CF, and I won’t be doing such a large piece Solo I don’t think. Time to train my room mate, or my girlfriend. Undecided as only one will cost me money ha.

Cut these out using the higher end dremel from home depot and cut off wheels. Went great, but I’m thinking different discs would have sped this up. I had a 3m 6001 mask I wore the whole time.

Piece of wood and screws let me paint my parts for first time using a HVLP. Went pretty good, but NEVER under light parts you paint. Made for a lot of runs, which takes a ALOT of time to fix.

Sent this to friend Josh and he wonders why I beveled the edge. Another lesson is be clear on plan with client.

Selfie, drove down 3 hours to deliver and watch over install. I made it back home around 7am and moved to a new house the next two days. #goodtobeyoung

Gives you a idea of intent. Direct airflow fast around the wheel and in hopes of sealing off underbody. With a flat bottom on car and sideskirts to seal undertray it may work out great. Looks awesome.

Rivets worked better than I thought. Painted some aluminum L brackets black to hold it together. Worked great.

Car meet the next day in Houston, I didn’t attend.

Another from meet. This car was at time attack in Atlanta, can’t wait until his next big race to see how he likes setup.

Hi Ian, cool project, I’m looking to make a bunch of track car parts as well, good job taking it from mock up to finished parts. What sort of time scale was there from making the template to bolted to the car?

nice one

Basically had 2 weeks. Don’t laugh but I had over a 100 hours into this and for what I charged it was not a profit. But I also taught myself how to paint with HVLP and a load of other things. I’m determined to get better. On books is clients/friends waiting for following…

S2000 full undertray, sealed sideskirts and rear diffuser. Cut out trunk bowl and replace with CF plate. Carbon fiber door panel replacements with GT3 RS red handles. Several wing end plates.

E46 M3. Carbon fiber door panel replacements with GT3 RS red handles.

Cool project and cool car. Work S1s or S1Rs? I believe they are the former.

Not sure. More fun is engine, 1uz V8 from 95 Lexus. Josh builds some sick rides for sure.
