Advice Please new mould

Ive just done a new bulk head panel mould for my classic classic car , iam going to do a wet lay up 1x 200gm carbon and the 350gm carbon will be thick enough and then vacuum down , should i try to use one peice of carbon or 2 peices becouse of the dip in the middle will the carbon distort to much?

Thanks

Two pieces, what if it doesn’t turn out with the single layer. You will be providing an insurance almost, plus an area that size doesn’t cost much to cover twice.

sorry iam going to do two layers , but should i cut a peice to go in to the dip first

Sorry I didn’t understand. Yes I would cut the piece into 2 so you can lay the one layer first. I have not had to good of luck folding a piece back over, as compared to a separate piece.

do you think for the first peice on carbon , it will follow the patern with out distorting the fabric or should i cut a half circle out first for the middle bit.

hopefully this will sound better i hope

I think your question is where to put the cut in your fabric so it fits. Personally I am unable to make circular cuts in woven carbon fiber without little bits and pieces falling out everywhere. A trick though I use to keep it together is putting a thin fiberglass cloth on the back and wetting it out ever so slightly. This keeps the weave together but it’s a lot more work.
I would just cut straight down the middle and do my best to keep the weave straight. If you’re careful it should work

Just done a carbon part from my new mould, just trimed and not poilshed yet. 1 x200gm twill and 1 x650gm and wet lay up and vacuumed

What cutting strategy did you use and are you happy with the results? The part looks good in the picture, it seems that you had no problem getting the fabric to conform to that curve.

Hi yes iam happy with it , this part has the most amount of shapes that it ever done, the other parts are much more simple, iam happy that i didnt get much weave distortion and very little pin holeing. i use a cut off wheels from perma grit they last and last and cut well and i use ther flat wide sanding plate that they do and i use a 10mm sanding drum
