hi im tom.
i come from a back ground of working in bodyshops. as a painter. i am also a very goo panel beater aswell but not qualified.
lats year i was working at a high enbd race car builder when i was aporached by a guy who made carbon parts. my job was to finish them.
he gave me them in resin situation and said do your thing. to say the least i know how to finish carbrbon to a high standard.
while i was at the bodyshop i was just amazed at all the carbon parts being used and that was that i was drawn in to the world of compistes!!
i was poached by a big compny in to take control of finishing and q/c of massive composite pods for hotels/mod etc etc
while i was there i lead mould service, mould makeing, lamitateing etc and now as a hobby atm i want to work with carbon
i am curretnt only vacum baggign because as i see it im climbing up a ladder and i still carnt get the vacumm baging 100% right so no point infusing. also0 becausew i am practiceing i am useing polyester resin rather than epoxy
my following question are.
-
do people always use clear gel and let tack before laying up?
-
the resin after the gel is kept wet the layup the carbon??
-
what pressure do people vacuum at because im geting b ridgeing and some little bubbles
-
do you roller the carbon once it has all bin layed up??
-
i know epoxy is superior in strength but to work with is it better than poly
i have thousands of question but learning hands on is what its all about
