adhesives

hi. I would like to use black polyurethane adhesive to permanently bond carbon fiber parts together on a rc hydroplane powered by a gas motor. vibration is an issue. I understand this adhesive is used to bond windshields on cars. it seems very strong and remains flexible. good idea? thanks

I have had good luck with this product. http://3mcollision.com/3m-plastic-repair-semi-rigid-04240.html

One of the most popular polyurethane adhesives is Sikaflex.

It’s usually available in black, white or grey.

There are a number of different grades/types and these may also need a sika primer applied too to ensure adhesion.

thanks, going to try sika flex 221.

I’m using scotch-weld 2216 on my carbon 1/6 Gas scale hydro. Seems to work pretty well so far. I’m using it to bond the top/bottom.

ken, did you build this gas hydro? I’m starting a plug to build a gas outrigger. would really like to get some more information on your build, such as the type of top to bottom joint, etc. if you have the time. I think it’s about time gas hydros were made of carbon fiber, don’t you? thank you, john
