Adhesive Recommendation?

I am gluing two carbon fiber pieces together. I have constructed a tube. I have made two molds with two halves of the tube. What is the best or ideal product to bond these two pieces together? Thanks.

3m dp490 epoxy glue. It is very strong and comes in 50ml twin tube cassets that fit a gun, use the mixing tubes that come with the glue and it makes for a very easy job.
Have some accetone on hand to clear up any excess glue to make for a tidy job.

Thanks for the recommendation, but it seems like that product in only really available in the UK. I check and see if 3M makes a similar product that is sold in the US.

In that case check for a glue from Huntsman. Is there an overlap on the parts? Or is it a butt-joint?

You can download apps for iPhone, Android and Blackberry for the Huntsman glues (product selector). (Search for “Huntsman”)

Suggestions are 2014 (epoxy) or 2021 (MMA). Both in 50ml if you need it.

It’s under scotch-weld.

Those product recommendations will do the trick

Anyone have experience with Scotchweld 420?

I use 490 regularly. Same stuff just longer potlife. Works great for carbon to metal.

I have just been looking into the subject of adhesives, trying to educate myself for some future projects…

According to one source, the best plastic-to-plastic adhesive (ie. gluing two or more carbon fibre parts) is polyurethane adhesive. It seems like the epoxy adhesive is better suited to when you need to join metal fittings to plastic? But from what I have seen, it does look like either will do the job - I just don’t know how much better the poly will be than epoxy?

The polyurethane in general is more flexible. They also have a faster cure time.
