This change will only affect unregistered users

In the interest of transparency I’m going to announce a change before I implement it.

I will be placing ads on this site to raise money for a forum upgrade. The current forum software is over 7 years old. The license is also expired and with that I am unable to receive updates or support from Vbulletin. I would like to upgrade to Vbulletin 3.8.6. To do this ads will be displayed to unregistered users ONLY. To everyone else the forum should look exactly the same.

I personally dislike ads but in this case I am unable to pay for the forum upgrade out of pocket. However to ensure this site doesn’t go through another period of downtime it is necessary to upgrade from this ancient software.

nobody likes ads but if they help this forum and it only really affects unregistered users it doesnt really matter =]

Thank you very much for the reply. It helps to see that the changes are being noticed, helping make the site better and most importantly of all not ruining your, or anyone else’s, experience here.

Are these pay-per-view or pay-per-click ads?

In the last case, I suggest every member to log out sometimes, see the ads, and click them if you see anything you like.

I’m applying for Google Adsense so they’ll be pay per click. It might take me a while to put them up though since I want to be double and triple sure it doesn’t change anything at all for registered members.
