Hi everyone,
bit of a noob question here, i’m hoping someone can shed some light!
I had some unpainted replacement car parts come in made from ABS plastic. I attempted to make a mould of the parts using vinylester tooling gelcoat and it seems to have made some slight crevices and what almost looks like the plastic has swelled a bit surrounding those crevices. The piece isn’t entirely ruined but I will have to sand them down…My mould release was chemtrend semi-permanent mould release wax and PVA
I thought ABS plastic was compatible with vinylester and polyester based resins?
Could someone suggestwhat happened and how i can get passed this?
I took a photo of the gelcoat surface I removed from the ABS plastic - you can see the little crevices that the gelcoat moulded onto. Forgot to take a photo of the plastic piece but can take a photo if that will help more
