Does anyone know of a good, hopefully cheap abrasion resistant coating that can adhere to cured prepreg surface and can be pigmented? Thanks
I know SHD do pigment their resins at times for their Pre-pregs but not sure if doing it seperate to the lay up will work. You could always ask them if they can do a sheet of pigmented resin film to lay up on the surface then put the pre-preg behind it… They do supply resin film so that could be an option.
Whoops, Sorry morepower, you replied as I edited the thread, so now it makes no sense! hahaha
Thats OK… Just like most of my posts… None of them make sense… But still the film may help as it will be on a scrim so may help add a little scratch resistance… LOL
I have no idea on how much it costs, but Zircotec do coatings for composite parts, one of which is for abrasion protection; http://www.zircotec.com/page/composite-coatings/22
Again I have no idea what it would cost - but SP do a surfacing film.
SF 95 VH which claims to give 300% better surface longevity, but does not say compared to what!..
Typical SP stuff, but one you might get hold of easily here in the UK.
Jim.
Mix some resin with quartz flour. Plenty abrasion resistance. Also glass flakes are very abrasion resistant.
