ive been reading alot of the posts here and am excited that this forum is out here. but i have a few questions. first, about bladder molds. where do i get a bladder bag so to speak. what do i fill it with. two, anyone know a easy and fairly in expensive way of making molds? what do i make it out of. rubber? like i said im very new and have been making stuff out of carbon for less than a year. ive made a few cylinders and will be using sleeve. but to make bends i cut the cylinder at slight angles to make a semi smooth radius then connected them to make a bend. i would really rather have a smooth bend like a mandrel bend so to speak. any one have any suggestions?
I guess some pvc pipe and a pvc pipe heater would work but be prepared to shell out some dough. I haven’t tried bladder molding yet but I believe you use air to fill the bladder. I imagine it’s the direct opposite of vaccuum bagging. Where are you in VA?
im in the hampton roads area. i want a cheaper way to do intake piping and turbo hard pipes. ive made a few with hard angles. basically cutting angles and glueing them together and then sleeving it all together but id rather the angles be smooth. i just cant think of an easier way to do it.
Bladder molds are made out of silicon. You can purchase them by the sheets (uncured) and construct your own bag. You will also need to create you tools to work with the bag. Once the bag is constructed, you’ll need to heat cure it. Then you’re pretty much good to go. Not cheap though.

Just thought I’d let you know there is a distributor in Norfolk that could provide you with all the composite materials you could ever need. Except of course Evan’s top secret mold release!
You have to own a business to buy from them but I’d be glad to help you out.
hmmm thats cool what buisness do you work for. i know of a few fiberglass places here in hampton any chance those are yours?
In the process of building the business, I work out of my garage for now. The whole plan in the beginning was to sell on ebay but I save big bucks on materials just for having a legit business.
business sucks… well sometimes…
I’m heading off to China in Oct. to see about a factory over there. Going to train 75 people on vacuum bagging and infusion so they can produce parts for me while I concentrate on custom onesies and twosies.
oh no another business owner outsourcing his work to lower bidders
Best of luck to you, just make sure you ship my mold release off first
While you’re heading to china I’m thinking about cali. If you don’t mind me asking what do you pay in rent for your shop? The whole idea from the beginning was to beat all the competitors prices but now I’m realizing all the extra expenses that go into it all. I am currently developing my product line but unsure of what to charge for the pieces.
It was shipped the same day. But UPS broke the package: 1Z 229 YR9 03 9113 6186
I’ll have to ship you replacement on Monday
The china thing came out of no where. I ran into a friend who is closing down his fiberglass shop. So I thought it might be a good opportunity for me to take over, train them in closed molding, have parts made the way I want and save at the same time. Plus my buddy can keep his factory open. My rent here right now is $.70/sq ft. Not expensive, but far from cheap. You should charge whatever you think the parts are worth. Don’t compare yourself to competitors and try to beat their price. Just find your nitche where it’s not so saturated, aka Hondas.
