Am i glad i found this site, so sad when Evan closed the other one. Anyway thought id show a few pics of my work from the past. I
m still busy working on new projects in fact ive just finished the mold for my dash, a very complicated mold as it will also be used to infuse the part. At the moment it is still on the plug curing, i should be removing it this coming week and prepping it for it
s first part. I`ll show pics of progress as and when.
A few more pics, but how do i get them show in the message please
The images need to be hosted somewhere before they can be posted…
You do beautiful work… It really is awesome.
Very nice, is also interesting having pics of the molds too…just an idea;)
What did you use to trim the excess CF?
harv, you can trim the excess with a craft knife and then block sand it. I also use air tools i.e. die grinder and file also hand files etc it depends on what part requires cutting holes, slots etc. Carbon trims very well with a craft knife into a 90 degree corner.

At first I was laughing at your medussa of lines running out of that bucket. I was like “WTF?” but after seeing your pics Im surprised and impressed.
I just started playing with the infusion so Im learning as I go.
GOOD JOB!!!
Beautiful work BAZNOZ ! Are your additional feed lines delayed or sequential for that piece ?( the larger work).

On posting pictures, they can be hosted somewhere else or uploaded from your computer, but if the later…then watch the limit number in each of the max. number allow for that format.
Sometimes you might need to resize the pictures and I found a free program to be able to do that. I think it was on downloads.com but I’ll check into it later.
You want to share the clear resin you are using for infusion? I suppose its UV stable or are you then putting down a clear coat?
I`m spraying a few coats of duratec first then infusing with West only because i have some left, needs a bit of heat to the resin before mixing to get the viscosity down and also heat up the mold to aid flow. Then when out of the mold and after a period of curing i topcoat with clear two pack.I am at the moment in the process of sourcing a low viscosity epoxy but we are not as fortunate as you on the other side of the pond as it can be a little difficult to find in smallish quantities.
Thanks for the interest guys and thanks to those who started this site up again, it was this site that inspired me to have a go and also provided me with the knowledge i have to understand the processes and get it right more times than wrong. It is a learning curve but once you understand your mistakes boy is it rewarding.
Worldwealth, the resin feed lines are delayed and are as a result of trial and error, on the decklid infusion pic i had to add a small feed line around the back of the box section.

That looks amazing. Can you post pics of how you made the steering column cover?
Flawless, i would just like to know the infusion mat gets bonded with the piece, do you just leave it as it is or paint over it…just like to know how you finesh it…and some pics would be nice
rupash, the infusion mat (flow media) is removed this sits ontop of the peel ply. The infusion jackets that you can see are made by me and consist of 5 layers of flow media wrapped in peel ply, the reason for this is to prevent print through to the front or finished part. I have found that when infusing large parts like the cargo cover it is necessary to have the resin lines on the part the only problem with this is unless you spread the load when a vacuum is pulled print through can be a problem, but not with my infusion jackets.I spray the back side of my parts with a satin black paint.ill put up a couple more pics but i don
t have any fresh out of the mold. I have a picture of the mold though this is just after the part has been pulled.
Awesome parts!
ok im sort of understanding it, but dont you get the peel ply sticking to the final piece? I find that when i’ve done a infusion, that usually the peel ply along with the flow media are saturated in resin and so is very difficult to take out.
When you are doing another piece would appreciated some photos, would love to produce parts as clean as yours. And one more thing what tools do you use to trim your pieces…thanks alot.
rupash, its easier to peel the peel ply and flow media off before the resin sets too far, but don
t pull it too early or you might distort the part. I cant say when because that depends on what resin/hardener your using. It can sometimes be a little stubborn especially on complicated parts but i don
t realy have any problems with it once you get a corner and it starts coming. I`ll take some pics soon and post them.
If you look on the first page of this post the answer to your second question is there about half way down.
rupash youll get there it just takes a lot of practice and not giving up when the mistakes come, especially in the begining. I just kept telling myself no you won
t beat me lol

I have a question about this.
What are those “evelope” style things where the t fittings are?
How much resin/cloth ratio did you use?
