2foot dish.

I haven’t done this all myself YET (still learning minor techniques)…but holy CRAP this is hard. Laying sheets of prepreg over a bowlshape is harder than you think…wrinkles galore!!! and when everything wants to unstick, or stick to the bottom layer, and strech and bind…yeah.

Mold is a 2ft aluminum dome. few teflon tabs for aiming. outside CF is actually part of the mold. Um, I think they call it assistant mold, or mold assist. confuse the CRAP out of me at first. nomex core.

2’ DISH!

Holly Crap, someone’s hungry!

Oh…satellite dish…

Are you just making 1x or a production run of them?

Do you have a oven to cure these at this size? We are working a knock down, PUR foam oven in the classroom to make larger size pre-preg parts!

You might have to make both a male and a female compression molds…

Make a cutting template with a “Pie cutting” shape and don’t worry about the joints as they will blend out with the compression and oven temps liquidfying the resin matrix.

Right now, (i’m gonna post more pics in a min), we are prototyping the 2ft dishes, we have several models made somewhat differently. Can’t really get into that stuff here
However, they will be in mass production soon. We are also working on a larger segmented dish for easy transport. THAT has not been going well (like the machiners for the mold not hogging out the bottom, leaving us with a 300lbs mold, for only a small segment pedal!

We cook all our parts in a standard walk-in oven, no autoclaves…yet…

and let me say, trying to fill 6 inches around a 2ft by 3/4" thick core with epoxy takes a DAMN long time…
