Though new to CF fabrication I’ve built 5 CF (some with Kevlar, FG etc.) longboards for my kids and nephews. My 11 year old son assists me and he wanted to do one by himself. We decided on a mini longboard as it would be easier.
He drew the template, cut and sanded the corecell 550 foam, layed 3k CF on the top and bottom foam side and the outer layer was some very heavy CF I found that comes in 10" wide rolls (perfect for boards, don’t know the specs but very thick). We reinforced the truck mounts by cutting out the foam in that area and stufing it with cut CT and resin. It depressed a little there – maybe next time we will make sheets of cut CF and resin, vacuum it and cut it out and lay it in the foam.
We used West 105/207 and vacuumed bagged it on a concave template I built previously… I guided him but was pretty much hands off. I do insist on using a full face 3M organic and particle respirator and it works great and is comfortable.
We had a few more bubbles on the plug side then i would like – mostly because I used corecell without double cuts (the double cuts show up on my boards when it concaves in the mold) and I forget to have him make make pinholes in the foam.
We gripped it with Tread Tex on resin and it feels pretty grippy. We have Randall trucks and Abec 11 wheels on order.
