This is the first of a new 10m beam we have made that is used for land survey with a laser scanner mounted at its end.
There are 5 x 2m pieces that fit together with a tapered male/female sleeve join and stainless steel catches holding it together.

Funny, I made something similar a few years ago to mount to a helicopter to 3D scan powerline routes. Needed to be light weight and super stiff. We didn’t think of using flats to keep it in line. That would have been better than the pins we used.
