We are still experimenting with the layers. The sample material was 100gsm, very thin. on this case we had a few layers of 3k twill and the did the outer layer with the 100gsm textreme. This does not give the ideal finish because 1 layer is so thin that the texture of the 3k actually will transpose through the textreme layer. For our production cases we will be using multiple layers of 160gsm textreme. With a pure textreme case we should be able to reduce the overall case weight by about 20-30%. Our standard MacBook Pro/Air case weight when fully fabricated weighs in just over 1 lbs but a chunk of that weight comes from the padded interior. I think we can get this weight down to well below a pound. Always fun to work with new materials. Just wanted to share our development process with fellow carbon fiber enthusiast. I’ll post some final product pictures soon.
Cheers,
Kevin
