I think it is awfully extreme, but if it works for him. it is common to spray gelcoat then peel it off, this checks to be sure no place will stick. It seems kinda a waiste to use pva with any nice mold in my opinion. I also prefer a semi over wax myself, especially for epoxy
Thanks mate
I did another infusion today and it also came out top notch! It looks like having bubble free resin and doing a slowish infusion to ensure that the materials are wet out evenly along the resin front without trapping bubbles is key. I clamped off the vacuum a little after gelling started.
I know the parts you do are small 20_RC51 so it helps me to learn from you… i’ll be degassing my epoxy on the next infusion, and pulling around 20hg instead of 29. Hopefully i will get good results also. Also i had bridging going on. Hojo helped me figure that one out.
Ya bridging is a pain, even the smallest amount of bridging and you are asking even the tiniest of bubbles to hang out…
what sort of pump are you using to get 29"?
My vac is usually around 25"
I use a Robinair #15600. I’m at about 800ft above sea level. next infusion i’m going to use a squeegy to push the fabric into the corners of the mold tightly. That and Hojo suggested not letting the flow medium get in the way and cause bridging on those corners. I was just overlapping the corners with flow medium thinking it would just suck down tight to the mold shape. But these corners are like 90 degrees with very little radius to them. Probably a 1/16 inch radius.
some of the corners on mine are 90 aswell, I recall hojo and you discussing your "green " flow media, I’m using the red stuff. I manage to get my stack worked into the corners by pulling vacuum and only partially clamping off the inlet hose, so there is some downward presssure on the stack from the bag, but not so much that I can’t massage the contours by hand to get good contact around the edges. Perhaps your flow media has something to do with it aswell, recalling how Hojo was not a big fan of the green stuff, personally I can’t comment on that.
now that I think about it I might only be pulling 25" because of the altitude… 668m above (2191 ft above sea) Kinda sucks for my vacuum potential, and my horsepower
