Routing mti hose

Cool thanks. I will probably clear since its an exposed part.

In reality you can get away without clearing as long as you regularly wax them. This is very common on high end racing sailboats that want to avoid having the added weight of clear aloft. You won’t get the really deep look from it though

Hello,

If I can just give an advice about 3M sprayed stuff, try the 3M 75.

The 3M 75 is a bit less “stronger” than the 77 but I noticed on some of my parts that the 77 cant be disolved enough by the resin and can leave some “darker” traces. And the 75 allow temporary fixed and you could easily replaced cloths if mistakes happened.

Maybe your few little pin holes can be caused by glue excess too (just suposition)?

Fantastic work and good for you for taking on the project!

(this mention is less about your parts and more for future readers who may care about the cosmetics more) I too suggest something other than Super77 for minor cosmetic reason. There are other specific adhesives out there for carbon layup that work better and do not leave any residue.

Again, good job!

So i modified the mold to remove the flange on one side (not needed) which will make the lay up easier. For the spiral wrap and MTI hose, can it be run like shown as opposed to the way it was done before and get the same results? This will make additional layups easier as well. MTI hose shown white, spiral hose shown black.

thoughts?

That will work without problems :+1:

I also plan to use the IMC that i ordered from German Advance. Do i put a mold release on first? Brush on the IMC and go or wait overnight? Any way to prevent the IMC from pooling?

Correct, but make a test with your releaseagent before you put it in your mold! You can paint 2 or more layers. Wait 5 minutes between the layer and than let it cure 24 hours.
If you make 3 layer you have enough to wetsand and polish, than it is perfect, better than clearcoated.

What am i looking for when testing with the release agent? Will the IMC stay in place when applied to vertical walls or will it try to flow down?

Some release agent are not compatible with the IMC. The IMC will stay at walls, but you only have to make a thin layer, it is more a clear coat than a gelcoat!

So my last layup went horribly wrong. Pretty much, i degassed to long and the epoxy started to set up before the infusion was finished.

I dont think the IMC worked very well. There is maybe one or two spots on the fished part that were glossy, everything else looked bad. I don’t know if this is from the infusion issue or if the IMC just didn’t work. It was also really hard to pull the part from the mold and i did get some damage to the mold in one corner. I might just avoid the clear on future parts.

Maybe some one know what kind of release agent works with this IMC?

I can use this part part as a dummy, for trim and mounting on the car.

In your case I`d suggest using a Carnauba wax plus PVA. This works pretty well with the IMC.

Dolphin wax works well too with PVA.

Any PVA come to mind?
