Razor Blade Triming

I am using some hybrid carbon-kevlar to overlay an original part. What i was wanting to know is - will a new fresh razor blade cut through carbon-kevlar that is at B-stage with the resin?

I’m trying to avoid having to buy a new pair of scissors at the moment because i’m broke.

yea you should have no problem. I cut carbon laminates that also have kevlar in them with a utilty knife with no problem. If the laminate has hardened up too much you can use a heat gun to help trim it

here is my Q, so if you have a part that’s in b stage and you demold and trim don’t you risk the part deforming since it’s not in th emold anymore? I have thought about trimming before full cure since it’s easier but I’m worried about it changing it’s shape…

you use the mold as your cutting guide. it would be difficult to control your cut with out something guiding your knife.

oh I see, makes sense, but don’t you risk marring the tolling surface of teh mold?

well actually that method is usually only done on molds with no flanges. the edge of the mold is the edge of the part. the benifit is being able to use the edge of the mold as a cutting guide just using a knife and some heat, pop the part out and all you need to do is sand it very quickly. I believe in fastrr’s case he did a overlay on a part, so he can use the edge of the part the same way.It would be a bad idea to do this method with a flanged mold because like you said you would damage your surface

very good thanks man
