Production Woes

Yeah, that’s exactly what I do too. I just finished building a CNC router after reading about it (and building it in Solidworks) for about 2 years. I’d get ready to start and then learn something new. Start stop start stop. I’m pretty confident I’ve got it right now.

Has anyone worked with Fiberglast? They are about 10 miles from my house. They are expensive, but when I talked to them they said their price reflects “superior products”. Not sure I believe that…

I no longer work at this company, but you can contact Velocity Composites. We were making wings for several different customers. www.velocitycomposites.com

Just pulled the trigger on some “practice supplies”. I ordered from Fibreglast, which I probably wont ever again due to their prices, but I didn’t get too much stuff because I want to learn hands-on.

Anyway, I got some polyester resin for making a mold, their system 2000 epoxy for making the plug (the plug is a piece of Styrofoam), some 6 oz e-glass, and some heavy mat for making a mold. I also got their “semi-permanent” release to try it out. I just finished my hot wire setup and will be making my cuts as soon as the wife gets home.

Since it’s a simple part- a wing- I hope I can learn to do this myself. We shall see.

If you got the FibRelease then you wasted your money in my opinion. I’ve never gotten a successful release with it when using epoxy. Maybe I was just unlucky.

Well that’s not good. Maybe I should just get some Loctite stuff and be done with it. Can’t remember what it’s called…

Frekote. Get the FMS sealer and the 770-nc release.

There may be some out there though who have had success with the Fiberglast stuff.
