For anyone interested, I use ordinary vinyl transfer stickers. Transfer them to the fabric before laying it up in the mould, then infuse. Works perfectly, the sticker is then below the surface of the resin and protected, and it infuses as if the sticker were not there:
Have you ever tried this method with just a wet layup? Im curious if it would work when just vacuum bagging a wet layup if I were to stick a vinyl transfer to the carbon before wetting.
I had some holograms printed on eBay as stickers and typically just sand the back of a part and put them on. I have a few parts that infused them on top but below the peel ply. Waiting to demold to see how they look but you could also just do that but add a surface veil on top.
Hi guys, I’m a newbie here so please be gentle. I’m relatively new at vacuum bagging and Carbon fiber and thirsty for knowledge. I have a major project on the go that will need a logo embedded into it somehow and spend the past several months thinking of a way to do this. What I came up with is similar to what some of the guys on here have thought of already. I would have a custom vinyl decal cut in my logo but have it stacked 3 or 4 layers high and have it cut in mirror image. I would then stick this “reverse” decal in the bottom of my mold then release was and pva. Now when the finished part is de moulded you’ll end up with a perfect recess the shape of your logo that only needs to be filled with coloured epoxy. Let me know if this makes sense or am I just wasting my time? Thanks. This is a great site.

that will work , but you would need to apply the vinyl for every part you pull, and the edges will not be great … also , filling with epoxy will be tricky if the part isnt 100% flat
i would rather place a light layer of 25-50gsm over the area where the logo goes , so that it sandwiches the vinyl into the part …
or you can put a negative or positive logo on your plug to transfer to your mould, to then transfer back to your part.
Printing on a good quality surface veil has given surprising results in the past
