well the best system would be infusion then since you would have a very low resin and air content. trying to press your laminate at low pressures will trap a lot of air and leave the laminate resin rich. you should also consider using uni carbon to increase your strength.
Im gonna have to give infusion a try.
Ill make sure on the real projects to use uni with a directional aproach. If they want purdy Ill put a top layer of twill on.
Heres another pic of the press when its broke down and a couple other rocket parts.
The fins are a 1/8" styro core and two layers of 4x4 twill on each side.
I just took the last plate out of the mold. It is the best looking plate yet.
I had glued a sheet of malamine to the glass. I never thought about if you reheat contact cement it will re-liquify. It did, the glass broke. What a mess.
I will vac infuse the next one or just stick with one sheet of glass.
Thanks a million guys for trying to help. I really wanted to come up with a cheaper version of the press I posted. Oh well.
So no air bubbles if I vacuum infuse correctly?
If I vacuum infuse could I use the top caul
Thanks again?
No bubbles if you infuse. But infusion isn’t always lighter
(pinholes are lightwheigt, haha )
but I don’t think you would notice on this scale.
Infuse a flat plate isn’t difficult, and it is a nice process
Ill give infusion a try before the week is out.
Ive been reading a lot of threads on this forum and have come to the realization Im quite the hack LOL.
I think one of my big problems was a vac leak that I couldnt find . Well I found it. The bag connector has a hair line crack in it.This will help my frustration when repaired.
yes and yes.
When using a top caul with carbon, add a delay line of peelply before the vent line, to make sure all the carbon tows are fully saturated. Flow time will take a LONG time compared to a normal plate infusion with distribution media on top, so watch your gel times!
also make sure you get an infusion resin and degass it prior to infusing for atleast 5 minutes if you decide to give it a try.
Will this thing work?
yes it will work
Nice kitchen.
