New Honeycomb Core

Hi CarbonMike,
Not every cell is closed …review my blog.
“No cell is fully opened”…please review.

I wouldn’t mind if the weight is the same or maybe even heavier…delamination is a one way ticket to calamity. This core is designed to ovecome delamination by virtue of its large surface bonding area and its ability to vent localised high pressure steam induced by lightning or rapid altitude changes through its ventpaths.
An aircraft spends almost 25% of its time being checked out for delamination. Expensive maintenance, lost earnings blah blah.

Take your core and look on it parpendicular. How many cells are there you can see thru? On your core all cells are covered on top OR bottom. This means in general same think as they have been fully covered from one side (when talking about weight).

You are right about the delamination… But you can achieve same think with standard honeycomp core which have small holes in side walls from production. This core can still be made standard way, just when stamping rectangles you stamp also small holes in side wall. Then standard glueing.
