I may do a stator cover for my bike, nice idea.
Your work looks so good and professional!
Have you got some pictures of your vacuum set up??
No sorry I had always intended to take pics of a part under construction but once I’d get started I would always forget to take pictures. I made a video once showing everything but I used a setting that took up almost all the space on my hard drive (it was a ~30G vid) and I ended up deleting it…
Sorry I meant your vacuum pump set up if thats possible? Not the process of the whole thing being infused
No sorry that stuff is all pretty much gone. It wasn’t anything fancy.
All it was, was turn the vac on for vacuum and turn it off for no vacuum:D
20_rc51_00, about how many hours did it take you to make the 600rr chain guard? The one i made took forever.
I can’t recall how many hours but not too many. It did require some resurfacing and then making the mold, but nothing out of the ordinary. What sort of complications did you encounter?
So what, just straight vacuum pump to part? No resin catch?
How did you stop resin going into the pump?
I didn’t even have a resin catch. I used clear vinyl tubing so when I did suck some extra resin in it wasn’t a big deal. When I did my infusions I had pre set amount of resin that I had mixed and calculated for use.
Well the chain guard I made was a pain. I modified the mounting points on the original part so they would be easier to duplicate in carbon fiber. Next i filled the oem chain guard with plaster of paris. After that I waxed the guard many times then pulled a carbon part right off of the oem part, in a vacuum bag. The carbon had some small wrinkles in a couple spots. I just cut the wrinkles down with a new razor blade and then applied a tiny amount of black dyed epoxy over the cut marks. I then applied 3 surface coats of epoxy to the carbon fiber, sanded it down smooth. Then i reinforced the mounting points with more carbon fiber from the underside of the part. Filled in some small voids with clear epoxy, sanded smooth. Lastly I clear coated the part. As I said a pain in the butt to make it this way.
Heyy man you are doing very good work. I am impress
wow, you have some great looking pieces there? What are you possibly using to trim everything? especially interested in the trimming of the stator cover…
interested in doing some parts for me??? Have a ducati F1 I would absolutely love love love to have some pieces done for for weight reduction…
