My engine bay cover development thread!

Thanks!

haha lesson learned… i ordered more and they told me the shelf life is 3 months… only like 21 months old hahahah

good idea… i do that with my “ceramic coat” paint… also electric tape around the seal also helps…

What is the difference between tooling gel coat and gel coat? because i also bought a gel coat at the same time and its still liquid vs the tooling gelcoat which was rubbery…

onnnnnnnn another note of fail. I went to spray the duratec primer on this the other day… so I measured and poured the primer, measured and poured the high gloss additive mixed and painted!

Sprayed a light mist coat, waited 2 minutes, a nice med-heavy coat, then halfway through the second one I stopped…

Did anyone catch the mistake? or did it take you 1.5 coats to figure it out like i did?

ahhahaha

Hardener? hahah if so I’ve made the same mistake.

DING DING DING!!!
:(:(:frowning:

What a rookie mistake. I got too excited…
At least i know im not the only one who made the mistake meow :stuck_out_tongue:

this is a bit off topic from the engine bay cover but another part i am makin as well…

I’ve got the smaller parts down pretty well but the larger mold is giving me some trouble. this mold is roughtly 2’x4’ with 6" 90 bend. The part took about 3:30 seconds to infuse. I am using 8085 orthotholic resin. Can someone explain what is the cause of this?

set up- vacuum testing… 30 min no leaks…

towards the end of the infusion

the right side came out good, the left side as you can see had bubbles… the inlet line never had air bubbles
INLET:
1/4OD tube
spiral wrap

OUTLET:
3/8ID tube
2 layers of resin flow for manifold
Red Robinair vacuum pump

my guess is something with the timing? im wondering if maybe i should have closed the inlet for a few seconds every 30 seconds or so? is my outlet tube too big? The only thing i dont get was how come this happend to the left side but not the right… the only difference is the left side (issue) didnt have as long of a spiral wrap as the right side…

suggestions?
