MTI hose

Do you use a in mould coating?
Could you explain what you mean?
The gelcoat of mould is glossy finish. I am using frekote FMS and 44-nc.

First time when I use glue I used too much and I have a litlle area without resin on the product. Since that time I am trying apply a very light mist, but litlle spots are still show on final product.

I ment an gelcoat that is painted in the mould as first layer.

It is not painted, I am using a glue at corners and sticky fiber directly to the mould.

Try to paint the HP IMC first, but take care of the release agent you use. I think this will fix your problems.

I just wanted to post on this thread real quick. The MTI hose I ordered arrived the other day and I just pulled another part using it. It came out perfect! I love this stuff, its the only way I have been able to get a 100% perfect part, no pin holes, no imperfections! I will be trimming and applying clear coat tomorrow!

I havn’t tried the MTI hose yet but there seems to be plenty of good feed back from those that have used it. I am tempted to try using it with my paddle moulds.

I thought I would add my feedback on using the MTI samples that I received a couple months back.

I used the sample on a piece that Ive made many times so I know the amount of resin that I need and the final finished weight. I always infuse from the center out using one of those plastic resin infusion connectors for 1/2" hose and spiral wrap on my flange, so switching to the MTI hose was as simple as replacing the sprial wrap with the MTI.

The directions given for the MTI say to plug one end of the MTI with tacky tape and attach the vacuum to the other end. I actually did the same as I do with spiral wrap and just made a loop and connected a plastic T to the MTI.

I am very happy with the results. Although I paint most of the things I make, if you are trying to make a pinhole free carbon fiber look on the surface of your part, the MTI will definitely help.

I actually think that if you use the MTI hose you dont even need a resin trap on the end of your vacuum hose. Resin just stops at the membrane. This stuff is great especially if you are infusing an odd shaped part. I always had the problem that resin would always reach the sprial wrap on one section before the entire part was infused. I had to use more resin than needed so that the rest of the part would infuse, but the MTI solved this issue for me.

The only downside that I can think of is that sucking air out of your bag does take a bit longer than when I was using spiral wrap. Other than for that, I really cant think of any downside, other than for not having a local supplier.

I actually think of this as a positive. For more complex parts it give you a smooth transition and time to position the bag perfectly. When I make a part I turn the vacuum on fully and by the time the vacuum is perfect the bag is in the exact position I need.

I would like to try this…I’m ramping up for a project and self training myself on various techniques. Seems MTI hose would be good to have.

Is there a direct contact number/email to acquire MTI hose?

It seems like the air goes through the MTI hose only when it is dry. As soon as it is wetted by the resin, it doesn’t let the air flow anymore. Can you confirm this?

Yes that is correct, if the membrane is wetted with resin the pores in the membrane are closed by the resin. So the air permeability is very low if the membrane is wetted.
But that does not matter because your part should also be impregnated where the resin arrived at the membrane.

Yes, true.
But, since I haven’t been able to seal the bag perfectly, I hoped it would continue to mantain the vacuum inside it.
Now I know it doesn’t work in the hoped way.

Your bag always have to be absolut tight, independent if you use the MTI hose or normal spiral tube. You can not get a perfect part with a untight vacuum.

This,
You should never have the resin outpace your air. If that’s the case you either have a poor seal or poor resin inlet placement, either of which will result in suboptimal parts.

Maybe iam blind but i cannot find cost of mti hose to the US, can ya help me out ? thanx

You are not blind, we stil have no distributor in the US. You can order direct at us via pm and we send it to you.
I hope that there will be a dist in the US in the near future, there is a lot of paper work.

figures politics! Is it sold by the foot ? and at what price ?

can somebody tell me detail about this method.what the different between vacuum bagging only?

You use the hose for infusion. Vacuum bagging depends on the bleederfabric to get the air out.

DDCompound can I ask with the MTI hose stopping resin flow to the vac hose will it also stop excess resin being pulled into the mould, I used it on the weekend on my first project, which was a bit of a disaster as I had a big leak around the resin inlet and I de-moulded too soon but, the part still came out great, resin did seam to stop entering the mould once it hit the MTI hose but who knows?

Any excess resin in the mould was I would say due to the leak creating “air space” for the extra resin?!?
