Marble Carbon Fiber

Wobcomp, very interesting. Hadn’t actually heard of HexMC yet.

CarbonCDM, if you look at page 10 of this PDF, looks like you’ll get a pretty good answer as to where Lambo is getting their marbled CF from

this stuff is really cool.
ive got a little part that i’d love to make out of it. i’m contemplating getting a aluminum mold made for it.

am i out of line thinking that this is possible?..

beefy home shop hydraulic press and some heating elements in the mold. do you think that would get a usable part? obviously not aerospace worthy, but do you think it would preform like its supposed to?

I guess it all depends on the part and its specific purpose. Is it suppose to withstand a lot of pressure or load … is it functional or aesthetic… some things to think about

I was thinking the same thing you were with a really hefty press, but i wont be putting this to practice for a while

another issue is going to be getting ahold of some. looks like 95% of their clientele is aerospace so i’m sure getting a yard of it is going to be difficult

If you’re only doing a one off part then it wouldn’t be hard to make your own. Bit time consuming for sure, so I wouldn’t try to sell anything made from it, but it wouldn’t be hard if you just want to make something for yourself.

I thought of it too, but I might be leaving home for 6 months for a job coming week. A roll over here in the netherlands isn’t hard to come by, but it costs a couple thousand. old hydraulic press, PID controller with some heating elements and aluminium moulds for prototyping, shouldn’t be that hard, but you’ll only know to you try…
