Nice work Fastrr
Prop’s Fastrr… they look great!
Thanks i am now working on the last small part that is an overlay also.
very nice work, i’ve been using poly resin from a surfboard manufacturer/supplier here in the UK, with 90% perfect results, but i’m considering epoxy resins, just not sure it will be 100% perfect.
i also finish with 3-4 coats of 2 pack bodyshop grade lacquer for a deep gloss shine after flattening with various grades of wet paper.
This process has been used on many car interior parts i have done with lasting results albeit in a UK climate.
i have recently finished a test piece engine part using poly resin and finished with the above lacquer, it is a test piece with a friends car to see how it reacts with heat.
i doubt the lacquer will last to be honest.
looking forward to seeing these parts finished and fitted.
Great job!!!
Thank you guys. Its been a while since this project was completed, but I remember it being a fun one.
I have looked high and low for crystal clear polyester resin without a wax addative. Can someone post a link?
My thinking is wax addative would prohibit sucessive coats without first sanding and washing?
I use the surfboard polyester resins with no wax and have great success. Catalyze on the fast side, apply, and monitor for gelling. As soon as the resin gets past “dripping” stage, spray gun it with PVA heavily and heat box it immeadiately at a good 110-130F. The PVA dries quickly and the resin underneath will level very nicely. You will get a wet glossy finish once cured. You’ll get a perfect “ready to sand” hard surface every time. The other thing about this method is that the part no longer puts off “stink” after the pva flashes. Kinda nice.

why no wax? i usually do about 3-4 coats of resin, before a final coat with a wax added. cures fine and sands nicely.
I got away from using wax because I never get consistant results when doing flow coats with it. Maybe it’s the humidity here. I have a small spray gun that serves permanent PVA duty. The PVA method is highly effective every time.
