Hojo…you’ve always had a great verbal delivery on here…maybe you’d volunteer as a moderator ??
TET can surely see your a valid, worthwhile person to deal with others ? I sure do.
Many ways to skin a cat or pass on news…only one way to be kind.

The “no-name” looks to be We-no-nah ?? Perhaps a native Indian word for something ? To me its sounds like one of the Eastern Indian tribes of yesteryear.
Anyway…TET, I just wondered if its been so long since you had to do things on a smaller scale that you forgot that many of us don’t work within government contracts or Aer-space standards ??
I realize “TONE” or verbal delivery is nearly impossible to translate via the typed word…but c’mon…civility shouldnt
be confused within delivery of opinion, should it ?
They don’t use jigs…they didn’t wear gloves nor resparators…but they build crap you say ??Nonsense…maybe their core audience simply likes the fact that they are built in the US by US hands and little to no bureaucracy ? ( let alone OSHA approval, lol)
It floats well and stayed upright, thats got to count for something.
Cheers,Vinny
Hey Vinny! Long time not talk man! How have you been?? Thanks for the compliment, as for being a moderator it doesnt interest me too much, either way I will still give the same advice.
Doing great Howard. I’ve had no luck warming up to TET and Werkberg while out here in Socal. Seems like its the SOCAL mindset…they push it off as something else, lol.
I have met some pretty cool people out here though, mostly transplants. Had dinner next to Mario Van Peebles,FLight next to Ray Liotta, lunch next to Sissy Spacek, coffee next to Tom Hanks, about an hour talk with Jay Leno…a few years ago-3on3 basketball with George Clooney (what a cool guy ).
Looks like I might meet Paul Walker and Craig Leiberman from the Fast and Furious movies in a week or so too !
Most people could care less about these people…but what else do I have to do while eating alone,? Lol.
I agree it’s sometimes difficult to get friendly points across through a post.
But to clarify, most of my business is in automotive racing parts and transport trucks. The aerospace stuff stuff is less than half of what my company does, but requires the highest quality in all aspects. This trickles down to the rest of the products.
As for doing “smaller scale” stuff, we do plenty of it. So much so in fact that I’m opening a new facility just for that, to be able to work on one-off type stuff.
But no matter how basic the techniques for making composite parts, even a redneck homebuilder wouldn’t make canoes that way if they’re meant to be sold! The quality issues are one thing, but the horrible safety practices alone amaze me.
Less of a Redneck thing and more of an awareness issue for sure.
I would have NEVER run my hand through resin for hours like that ! Holy cow…not to mention the other dior mistakes.
The fact that they didn’t use any engineered cross angles for weave strengthening or flexation concerns in their lay-up schedule was bothersome too.
Well WW, if you knew what I have been going thru the last couple of years…
We Own & have real businesses that we have to attend to. We do not just put in hours for someone else…and WITH THIS BAD ECONOMY!
But we do this forum for the love of sharing information about composites and manufacturing.
Sorry we are not your social buddies…
I perfectly understand where your coming from …thats never been diluted from our PMs. I did sense clearly your in no new need of friendships either, lol…so be it.
Perhaps it was thought that I’d be an abyss of time, like so many of us running business’s often feel when people approach ?
Either way,I extended the hand.We can only do our best.
Sounds like your having an interesting time! Its always nice meeting new people, you never know what can develope. Keep in touch Vinny.
I want to add that there is a point in the show where they are using CSM (chopped strand mat) and this would make me believe that it is a polyester resin as opposed to epoxy. CSM does not have a finish that will disolve with epoxy.
Remember back in the day when we never wear gloves and just headed to the acetone bucket to wash the resin off up to the elbows and beyond…day after day!!
what about it?
I can’t stand that THEY AREN"T USING GLOVES!!!
But I also find it hilarious, that they throw the boat in for the debulk/first cure with the core, and it comes out magically with more carbon on top of the core!
wow things look so easy with prepreg…
so they just use vacuum and a big oven, with no extra pressure eh? nice…
Apart from the lack of gloves, I think the kevlar canoe turned out fine. There’s many ways of doing things in composites, there isn’t usually a right way and a wrong way. It all depends on resourses, manpower and experience. Yes I agree tet has a very negative attitude in most of his posts, it’s a shame, because he has much to offer in experience.
With respect,
I’ve been to a lot of chatty forums on the interweb, and made a lot of good friends, and rubbed lots of people the wrong way.
The tone that TET uses in his posts isn’t that out of the ordinary. Lots of people come across that way - the tone of their messages is completely matter of fact and sometimes seems condescending. But that’s what happens when you try to read too far into black and white words. Tone is a difficult thing to achieve in writing.
Without having met the guy, I can say that most likely, he’s a completely different person face to face, and just having trouble with how he shares his ideas with text.
My advice is to do your best to look beyond what you feel is abrasive, and do what this place is really meant for: information exchange. Because TET does have lots to offer. If you really can’t get past how he’s saying things (as opposed to WHAT he’s trying to say) then there is a user ignore feature.
Sorry you feel that way. Prehaps one needs to reads forum posts as pure text, with no tone implied.
The simple truth is I come on here to manage the forums, answer questions, and give input on topics using my experience in the composites industry I enjoy so much. I’m not interested in chat room conversations and telling everybody what they’re doing is fine and dandy when they’re putting bare hands in resin and using PVA because they don’t care to learn how to properly prep a surface and apply release agents. I explain the right way to do things, and give info that’s usually very hard to find anywhere else.
How does any of this constitute negative attitude?
Guys.
there is a difference between methods. Whether you want to use green or black mesh, or use mesh for breather. Who cares if you use one long injection line, vs. 4 ports.
It’s the safe handleing of material that we are talking about here. Do you think handling resin with your hands is safe? That isn’t a difference we methods that are are discussing here, it’s the blatant disregard for human health!!! If a product does what is intended, fine. But why give someone cancer in 10 years because they didn’t want to use gloves? If one person that runs the shop doesn’t care, then no one else will in the shop. Training has to be done from the start!!!
Stop fighting about who said what and how they said it. Let’s look at the facts of life here…
