this is what im worried about… since im outsourcing it to a body shop, should i give them a heads up or tell them something in advanced so they dont sand through the top layer??
If you plan to do much carbon fiber work I suggest you invest into a pancake compressor and a mini hvlp gun.
I doubt they’d sand far. Really they’re just “scuffing” the surface to give the clear something to bond too.
I have a compressor and gun, but a clean temperature environment to shoot the parts is what i lack. my garaged is CRAMMED with machinery and tools, also a layer in dust, wood powdercoat powder, metal shavings, etc :mad2:
I understand that the shop is only scuffing the surface, but having the part in my hands and seeing how thin of a top layer is on it worries me. but obviously i dont understand exactly how thick the top coat of resin is… just paranoia speaking since i lack the know how for painting and such:o
What he said…remember guys, this will be as much of a mechanical bond as adhesive. #500-#600 is the window. Your taking risks of quality and stability outside of this.
