Alright, sounds good. I think I may have got a customer… well he pays for the materials and I do the labor and then I use his work to show off, but he wants this certain type of CF. I can give you the part # and description from the carb.com site, but will aircraft spruce carry it? Not having a cutting fee would save a lot of money.
I don’t know… what’s the part number?
Part # 3480-30AQ 100% Carbon Fabric: 3k x 3k 4.8 oz/sq/yard Plain weave.
Ah the plain weave. That’s what I started out with. You’ll find it a bit tricker around the corners compare to the twill weave.
Should I just start with Twill then? Im sure there will be curves, and I dont have a vaccum bag
You can start with either. But twill will be a little bit easier if you don’t have a vac bag
What about the look of twill? I have 2 samples, they’re about the same… the # at the end of the part # is different, but the difference is night and day. One looks like ass, while the other is shiney, and better looking, etc. How do I know what I’ll be getting if I get it from Aircraft spruce?
Take a picture of the 2 samples if you can. I was also told by carb.com that there are 2 different types so that’s probably what you’re looking at. Lets just say that I use the fabric from aircraft spruce for all my stuff and never had a complaint.
So it looks ok? I want to start doing his dash probably in about a week. Im just charging him for materials, and Im doing the labor for free. Sort of a showcase thing, so I want it to look as good as possible.
Good luck with the dash and take some pics if you can.
