Wow, that’s incredible, very very good job. Tell me something, all this dashboard are made with one sheet of carbon? I mean no pazzle?
george, it is virtually impossible to do it with one piece without getting a really messy weave so i have spliced it but to be honest i cant see where ive done it in all places. The splices are really only on the right hand lower side, the more complex section. I was worried about doing it at first but not anymore. In order to get a clean cut line with no fraying of the carbon i sprayed a little 77 glue where it needed cutting and it worked a treat. On the underside which is not seen i did a
V` pattern on a section which had a marked contour change, as above sprayed and cut the first piece then lined up the second piece and overlapped this over the first. It came out perfect, i have seen people cut both pieces and lign them up but this is not neccessary.
It seems the cutting and the connect procedure is very difficult!!! I must open a new thread for that.
hey baz,ive been really busy selling fibreglass bits but the market i was sellng to has pretty much dried up so i figured its time i dig the carbon out again and actually make it work this time
im just making some new moulds and will attept an infusion with these…lots of questions heading your way lol
Hey Baz…are you sure you didn’t buy that from Ford, like they did some sort of limited production run on CF dashes.
Cause man…that thing looks like it came from the factory on there.
Absolutely amazing!!!
lol, woulda saved me a packet if it had plus 2 years getting enough expierience to attempt it, glad u like it though, thanks.
Baz
this dash was soooooo nice propps to you! I’m rebuilding my Ford Sierra and want to make dash in carbon, witch style i want, complete or racing i don’t know yet, by raceing i mean get all interior out and make new, like flat doorpanel and simple dash becuase i might build rollcage for my own safty hehe. and i liked your rs cosworth i thinky they are relly nice in white and black. did you use vacuum to make the dash? And what was the weight?
amazing, ive just joined, im a uk member who is starting into composites, ive done training and all so now just learning myself, how did you make the mould for that as it looks so tidy and alot of tight bends etc.
Great job mate
Gareth
So you mean to say, you had the whole thing apart, and you were making a new dash, and you couldn’t bother to put the bloody steering wheel on the proper side?!
Amazing work!
How did you smooth up you original dashboard?
How much molds did you used?
