cheers mate, they also show it sticking but lifting very easily after spraying on, so that’ll be more what I aim for as a minimum!
Well it certainly will release now… I brushed on my gelcoat, but it kept on waxing away to form puddles. I left it 15mins and tried to brush it out again but it still wouldn’t wet out properly. I had to go home at this point but went back to the workshop a couple hours later when it had already tacked off, so I applied another thin coat but it was still pooling, and I also managed to lift a tiny bit of tacky gelcoat away from the surface with the brush. A third trip out (about a 12mile round trip, not just in the garden shed!) after my wife went to sleep and I think I’ve got it covered, but this may be the worlds thickest gelcoat application!
I know I just need to let it start to tack and then brush it out again, and so I’m not too bothered since if it releases then regardless of how many issues with the laminating I can work at that part of the skill set without having to make new moulds every time - it’ll be lovely to just wipe the mould over with a single top-up layer of easylease and then laminate again… I have such extravagant wishes, I know!
Excellent
Good news, sounds like we at least have that problem solved!
Glad to help if you have any more issues!
Hi chaps, I demoulded on my way to work - I used breadwrap for the first time, which although didn’t make much difference to the amount of resin that was pulled into the breather made it a 2 second job to remove, then the release itself was a breeze - I just lifted an edge where I’d laminated above some flash tape, and then both parts easily popped out using my fingers. Less than 5 mins in and out of the workshop… very pleased with that… goes to show the release application was the only issue - the post cure was not important which is good to know for the full door cards we have ready to go once our laminating skills are up to scratch.
On that note I’ll get some pictures uploaded tonight to show where we’re at in terms of laminating. There are plenty of areas of bridging where I think the peel ply has pulled across, so this is something we will need to work on - but at least now I’m not going to be making a new mould for each part!
Thanks very much for your help guys - it was a dead simple (stupid?) mistake, but without someone to directly teach this stuff, having the resource of experience on the forums makes a world of difference!
