Interesting to check your IMC result. Any photo…
I mean before and after sand.
Haven’t got any photos sorry mate. I also generally use Duratec Sunshield, which doesn’t need any sanding, so I probably won’t have an opportunity to take any for you. In any case, it just looks like sanded clear coat on a mould…
Using regular 2K’s in mould is just something I played around with so I know what works and what doesn’t. If it’s something you are thinking of doing then you just have to play around with it yourself, as even if I gave you all the advice in the world on what I’ve done there’s no guarantee that the chemicals you are using would work the same way as the ones I’ve used. Just do a little 10ml test to make sure your coating releases properly, then do a full test on a small piece without sanding to see if the resin bonds to it. Put the piece under a bit of strain afterwards; cut it, file it, sand it, flex it, snap it, etc. If you get any delamination at all then you will need to sand the coating before laying up on it.
Thank you for advise !
My problem looks like this : hard to apply IMC and make thin layer(even when i spray it ) .Maybe my problem is in spray gun,or mould surface. Making any mist coat,I have no success with 2-d layer. I mean that have to make 2-d clear coat layer too thick and sand it anyway.
It is not difficult to prepare any flat surface, but easy to destroy whole level when you prepare curve moulds. And…this takes time. I;d like to make IMC more quick or not to make it at all.
If we just apply IMC and continue without sanding, finished item looks ugly as carbon fibers are not 100% straight ,so even when surface is 100% nice,we can see some defects inside. This is my problem.
I use epoxy clear coat Elan -Tech .
Not sure what you mean… You certainly can’t brush a clear IMC if you are consolidating the carbon fibre, you will see the brush marks.
But it should be very easy to spray it. What problem are you having with spraying it, is it running or too orange peely or fish-eyeing or what?
What are you using for an IMC? Duratec is very easy to spray thin. First coat you mist on and let tack for ~10mins, followed by 1-2 more medium coats. This can achieve less than 10mils thick by this process.
