carbon fiber full roll price

Not a bad idea. I will try to get some decent pictures of the different fibers with our microscope and maybe come up with a simple test for “softness” so we can compare properties as well as the relative cost. It might take a few days though.

I use 2x2 twill in a 5.7 ounce. I have no clue when it comes to who what and why concerning fabric types. All I know is I like the stuff that isn’t crazy soft. I’ve used fabric that was kinda stiff before and that stuff, in my opinion, was awesome! Not stiff like Texalium or glass- just easier for me to work with because the weave stays put a bit better. 99% of my parts are cosmetic and the soft stuff is harder for me to work with when laying in my molds.

The guy I was getting the “stiff stuff” from told me it was because his fabric was expired??? Not sure how true that is.

It is true. All carbon is coated with a small amount of epoxy resin to hold the fibers together when it gets woven. Some fiber seems to have more than others but all I have seen runs in the 1-2% range. As the fabric ages the epoxy dries out getting stiffer. Different fibers stiffen up at different rates and different amounts.

Oh wow. I thought he was feeding me a line of BS. LOL
