Bridging problems, bubbles and more oh my! Need help

Yep agree with worldwealth. You must heat the molds, all mine are heated to 40 C + (around 110 F +) and remain so throughout. Also heat the resin to lower the viscosity it will also help disperse any remaining bubbles in the pot. If the chainguard is taking 10 mins to infuse, the cloth is most probably not fully saturating and trapping air hence the air between the weave.

All my moulds sit on 7, 8 or 9 inch high boxes with light bulbs inside, the number and placement varies depending on mold size. So i don`t get a mold hot spot i lag the underside of the mould with foam backed foil (radiator reflecting sheet) To warm the resin up grab an old microwave from the small adds or if you are using a small amount use a heat/hot air gun on the cup whilst stirring.

Attention to these details will i am sure give you the results 95% of the time. The other 5% well even the pros have disasters even if they dont admit it lol.

JRL. I am pretty sure that it saturates.

…but that got me thinking, Whenever I watch the resin infusing , the resin front is usually farther ahead when looking at it through the bag then the same resin front looking from the underside through the mold (my molds are transparent) …Is this normal?

does this mean that the resin is too thick and speeding ahead through the flow media?

when I do any of my infusions I have a heat lamp on the mold.

The resin I use has a long working time.

I appreciate everybodys tips! Thanks guys, will definately apply the new knowlegde.

I’m starting to think that the root of my problems as it has been suggested is the resin i’m using!?

What does the manufacturers data sheet have to say about the suitability of the resin you are using for the infusion process?

If you are not trying to make structural parts, it might be worth looking at poly resin, which you can pretty much modify to suit your particular requirements?

There are no identifiers or data of that sort on the container, just safety/handling precautions. I will have to wait until Tuesday to contact the retailor to get that sort of information.

First time I’d heard that! Makes perfect sense though! Keep repeating it all, if nobody else, I appreciate it!
