bootlegging parts

Nothing sticks to it…heehee…yeah, and it shrinks when inclosed in pre-preg carbon…making the nice part you made, rattle. Explain THAT one to the customer.
Mine would be “my engineer is an idiot”

ANYWAY, long story.

I don’t know much about powders in resins, but shortfibers would help. Might be able to buy/make it…just chop up some tow or something.

Love to see pics and how it turns out

C’mon Riff, tell us what happened? That’s good to know about delrin. I’ve got lots for things like door sliders etc. Machines well and seemed to me under normal temps to be pretty stable.

Gonna be awhile till I can get to this lil’ project. Too many “honey do’s” on the list right now. sigh

Well, we were using G10 blocks as instructure mounting points (drilled, and helicoiled). We ran out, so he gave me these plastic looking blocks and told me to use it. I’ve never worked with it, and with his track record, I thought they would just MELT at our cure temps.
Well they didn’t, but either the CTE of the carbon or the Delrin changed enough, that when the composite was cured, the Delrin shrunk (or the composite grew), and left a more or less loose mounting block inside the enclosed composite material.

I know nothing about Delrin, but if you aren’t doing co-molded mid-temp cure work, then hey, use it. But yeah, it was a fiasco.
