Aluminum Mold making

Hybridracer, making rearsets and clip ons is something i’ve done some research on and being a machinist it is doable…for a hefty price. Need a CNC milling machine at the cost of about $25,000 minimum which doesn’t include any tooling. So cost and compensation was a huge factor in deciding not to make metal parts.

I’m sure it can be done and money made, but you would have to make a ton of them to make any real money.

Metal body work… never really even considered it for sportbikes because everyone wants plastic or composite body work. I don’t mess with harley’s or standards even in my parts selling biz. I don’t want to make parts for bikes i don’t care for. I want to enjoy what i do. Not to come down on anyone for suggesting something be made or done. I’m just a big sportbike nut. If I wasn’t making parts for them i’d open a business repairing and installing parts on them. I still may do this, but hire someone to run it for me whom i can trust. It’s just hard to find trustworthy people.

If you are wanting to sell bike parts as a hobby and are a skilled machinist, then why not design something new in metal, that you can make yourself?

The composites market for sportbikes is already pretty well covered by people that have years of experience, and who can produce reasonable products at good dealer prices.

If you are able to come up with something entirely new in composite material, and this is a good seller, then it wont be very long before its copied and put on the market for a lower price.
