Adh. Spray

The more i read up on this the more i want to try it.

So now, I have read so far

Mold, Flanges… Wax, release added

Spray (if you have to) Adh. Tac spray on the inside of the mold. Layup dry Carbon, cloth etc.

Peel Ply

Breather

Flow Media

Tape down and close.

CLose the line for resin, make sure all air out of the line is also out.

Vac, and take air out system.
Let it run and then unclamp the resin hose. let resin soak out, and then reclamp.

Let the system stay on if you have a shutoff vavle (mac valve) there should be no loss of preasure if you did it right.

Let it dry. take out. BOom nice part!??! =)

What are the most recommends Plys, Breathers, and Bag Film used? i have been looking at the strecth kind and it seems kinda nice.

you dont use a breather!! but other than that you have it correct.try the simplest mold you have or even a piece of glass, the resin will only go where the peel ply and/or fabric is so if you have a big square of glass and a square foot of cloths with peelply over it in the middle then that would work, with flow media onto the peelply and some peelply to keep the vac route open.

i read that the stretch stuff is not good for infusion at all.

Thanks for the tip
I will look into this more

I would not spray tach spray on the surface of the mold or on your gel coat layer. It does not disolve and can easily screw up your part!!

All the sites that i have researched put some form of tac spray. Usually the manufac.'s kind. Ex: Airtech, use airtech tac spray. etc

I have a pretty good question about cost.

Lets say i use about 200 grms of epoxy to make a part. (yes i weigh everything! =) )

To make sure the system does not dry up when pulling the resin, you have to make a lot more resin then you should. or am i wrong??? In theory, if i do infusion, my use of 200grms should really almost go down to 150, maybe even lower!? just b/c its excess epoxy on the part.

question, theres no way to recycle the resin its pulled and place it back into the system?? shouldnt have to if it flows corretly. The resin i use is pretty expensive =, and i couldnt get away with trying to make more batchs of it. the videos ive seen online people have buckets full of resin. how much of this is left over usually?

you will waste virtually no resin at all.you cant recycle it.

So if i used 200 grms when just laying up a part, i should just use 200 grms to do this and there still should be left over resin?

make 300g resin and see what you have left, then you will learn.i dont take much notice and dont weigh it so im probabely wasting loads.

I would recommend not using tack spray on the surface of the part either. It can possibly leave haziness. There shouldn’t be a problem if you spray it light enough, however, I feel it is better safe than sorry. Don’t bother trying to decided between the airtech tack spray and the 3m super 77. They are the exact same formulation. Check out the MSDS for both. Airtech does, however, offer another tack spray that is similar to infuzene. I do not have any experience with that one.

As perfeng says spray it lightly, you don`t need much to hold the carbon in place even on the most complicated molds. You must howevever make sure that the carbon conforms to every part of the mold and extra time spent here will save on ruined parts, time and wasted materials. To give you an example my dash took a full day to load up ready to infuse (8hours)
If you do have voids yes the resin may fill these but you will most likely have minute bubbles there also.
If you use a clear gelcoat/clearcoat and and wait for that to tac up before laying the carbon this can cause problems, especially on larger complicated molds as when the carbon touches it, it will stick in places where your not ready for it to do so. I tend to spray the tac in sections on my larger molds which enables me to control the weave better.

I was thinking of spraying one part, laying it down slowlly and then draping it down. Then lifting and spraying it down again.

you only get one shot!

So whats a good technic to apply the carbon onto the mold without the strands being pulled =(. ill try with reg. fiberglass first i guess.

A question i have about infusion, what happens if you have a 2 part molds. the seam line, lets say you put tape… will this hold a vacuum!? should i put sealant tape on the outside of the line and where the screws mount?

Or apply a little of oil base clay to the flanges to bolt and seal them better…

Your talking about before putting the 2,-3 parts together?

What you can do is bolt it all together then put the whole lot in a bag and then infuse it, just be sure to tape up any edges, bolts etc to prevent them piercing the bag. I do this on one of my molds. One thing to be carefull of make sure your mold joints are pretty damn perfect or the line will show on the finished part, don`t ask how i know lol.

Whats the best way to put a flange onto a Plug? I use to use Hot Glue, but that was just not enough. I might start using 2 part 5 min epoxy. ? what do others use. Also, how does one know in what hangle the flange should go?

this is a poor attempt in drawing it.

Part#1, how of those 3 angled lines, which is best. starting from top #1, to 3rd line on the bottom

part # 2, Is that a good angle?
